Milne Bay Provincial Health Authority was established under the National Health Services Standards Act to manage and deliver health services in Milne Bay Province.
“A Healthy and Prosperous Province where Health and Well-Being are enjoyed by all.”
MBPHA, Provincial Government, District Development Authorities, Local Level Governments, Ward Development Committees, Communities and Partners working together to improve, innovate, transform and to promote health and wellbeing and deliver compassionate, equitable and quality health care for all.
We prioritise the hardest-to-reach communities first, ensuring no one is left behind.
We account openly for the resources we are given and act with honesty in all we do.
We work alongside village health volunteers and local leaders to build healthy communities.
The Provincial Health Authority is a public entity established pursuant to the National Constitution and the Provincial Health Authority Act, 2007. The PHA is empowered by the Provincial Health Authority Act 2007 to provide strong, fair and decisive governance over the administration of health in the province.
It can develop subordinate by-laws for good governance purposes and for regulating its integration with the public and corporate entities.
The PHA Act 2007 and other enabling legislations confer upon the PHA Board full authority over the operations of the Provincial Health Authority services, ensuring these are consistent with its mandatory responsibilities.
The MBPHA Governance Board oversees the Authority through three standing committees and two governance streams — clinical and corporate — each supported by specialist sub-committees.
Under the Board and Chief Executive Officer, four directorates deliver MBPHA’s services across the province.
The provincial capital and mainland coast, anchored by Alotau General Hospital.
Covering Normanby and the D'Entrecasteaux Islands, served by district health centres and health posts.
The Trobriand Islands and Goodenough Island, reached through a mix of fixed clinics and outreach patrols.
The Louisiade Archipelago — the most outreach-dependent district in the province.
We are regularly recruiting clinical and corporate staff and publish supplier tender notices.
The Authority is governed by a nine-member Board of Management chaired by Mrs. Gloria Waren, with members representing the community, women, business, district affairs, the Provincial Administration and the National Department of Health.
